Choose the answer that best reflects what you would normally do.

1. You are six minutes behind. The next lane moves ahead, but both lanes catch up at each red light. What would you usually do?

Move over whenever a comfortable opening lets me gain ground.Stay in my lane unless there is a sustained benefit or route reason to change.Follow a vehicle that seems to be finding the best openings.Change lanes after each light if the other lane starts faster.

2. A light ahead is red. There is room ahead, and it might turn green before you reach it. How do you approach?

Maintain speed until I know whether the light will change.Wait until my usual braking point, then make a steady stop.Ease off early and adjust gradually as traffic and the signal develop.Close the open space before slowing so traffic stays together.

3. The light turns green. Cars beside you pull away quickly, and the driver behind sounds their horn. What do you do?

Accelerate progressively while keeping space ahead.Match the nearby cars until I reach the speed limit.Accelerate firmly at first, then ease off once moving.Clear the intersection quickly, then return to my usual pace.

4. Vehicles repeatedly merge into the gap you leave ahead. What is your usual response?

Accept a smaller gap until the merging area ends.Move to another lane each time the gap gets taken.Hold speed and wait for the merging vehicle to pull away.Ease off as needed and rebuild space after each merge.

5. At a stop sign with a marked line, you have a clear view and no approaching traffic. The van is barely moving. What next?

Keep scanning and continue at walking pace if it stays clear.Bring the wheels fully to rest before the line, check, then proceed when clear.Keep a little forward movement so the passenger avoids a final braking jolt.Finish slowing only if another road user appears.

6. Your turn is close, but reaching it would require two hurried lane changes. The passenger says they cannot be late. What do you do?

Signal and rely on nearby drivers to make room.Make the first lane change and assess the second afterward.Continue to a safe alternative route and update the arrival estimate when safe.Slow in the through lane until a gap opens across both lanes.

7. Your trainer says routine stops feel abrupt. You have adequate stopping room and there is no emergency. What adjustment do you make?

8. A queue moves several car lengths and stops again. What is your usual approach?

11. A vehicle ahead is slightly below the limit. You have a safe following gap and your next turn is less than a block away. What do you usually do?

Pass if a gap opens, then return to the turning lane.Signal a pass to see whether other drivers will accommodate it.Stay behind it and prepare for the nearby turn.Get closer so I can pass promptly if its speed falls again.

12. On a gentle downhill, you can see a queue well ahead. The van is gradually gaining speed. How do you manage the approach?

Ease off early and control speed progressively before reaching the queue.Let it gain speed until the normal braking point, then brake more firmly.Coast until close enough to judge exactly how much braking is needed.Match the car behind until it also begins slowing.

13. At an exit, you can safely wait. A gap in traffic would require hard acceleration to enter without making another driver slow. What do you do?

Use the gap because a firm start is brief.Begin entering and increase acceleration if the approaching car is close.Enter slowly and allow the approaching driver to adjust.Wait for a larger gap that allows a controlled, smooth entry.

14. Rain begins while you are following another vehicle at a gap that felt comfortable on the dry road. What do you do?

Keep the gap unless the tires feel less secure.Reduce speed as appropriate and increase the following gap before braking is needed.Match the lead vehicle because it is encountering the same conditions.Keep the gap but cover the brake to react faster.

15. At an all-way stop, you stop behind another van. When it leaves, you reach the stop line and can see that the intersection is clear. What next?

Continue slowly because I already stopped in the queue.Follow while the intersection remains clear from the first van's turn.Make my own complete stop at the line, then proceed when it is my turn and safe.Pause only if someone else arrives before I enter.
